On Thursday 25th February we had an Eco Warrior Day in which we worked with a company called the Global Action
Plan. The aim of the day was to see if we can reduce the amount of waste we use every day and to aim to recycle
more in school. I thought the day was very successful, working as a team to build an action plan to reduce waste. I
cannot wait for the challenge to achieve this.

On Thursday 25th February some of us and Ms Siddique took part in something called Action on Waste. Three lovely
ladies from Global Action Plan came into school and told us about and ongoing project we are taking part in. We
learned that our school wasted a ton of waste a fortnight which is the same weight as an elephant. The project is to
help us lower the amount of waste our school produces. We weighed the waste and sorted it and a lady from
Greenwich Council told us what they do to recycle rubbish. One thing we learned is the triple R: Reduce, Reuse,
Recycle! It was a great day and I learned a lot.

PE NEWS
Well done to all boys who have represented the football team this year. Recent results were an excellent draw
against Thomas Tallis School in Year 9 and a 3-2 victory over Crown Woods in Year 11. A special thank you to Terry
Jackson for all his help refereeing the Year 11 team over the years.
We have now finished rugby for the year. The final match was a double header against Harris Academy at
Falconwood. The Year 8/9 team won a hard fought match 26-17 and the Year 10/11 team were convincing winners
32-7. There were some outstanding performances across the teams and I hope to arrange a final fixture for Year
11s once their exams are finished.

Year 11 Rugby Team
Year 10 GCSE PE students completed two days kayaking and recorded the highest grades we have had: From 37
students 9 scored maximum marks. Year 11s completed a successful moderation day and survived a rogue invasion
by an unleashed dog trying to steal our balls!
School Travel Plan
Setting new targets for 2010 / 2011
As required by Greenwich council, we have recently completed a review of our School Travel Plan and outline below the main objectives which have been set for the school.
• To maintain bronze level of accreditation for our School Travel Plan through 2010 and 2011 and increase to
silver level by June 2012.
• To improve the current percentage of students walking to school from 24% to 35% by March 2011.
• To increase the current percentage of staff using sustainable travel from 21% to 25% by March 2011.
• To have 12 students from each year 8, 9, 10 to achieve bikeability level 3 by Summer Term 2012.
• Increase the percentage of students cycling to school to 12% by September 2012. (It is envisaged that
this objective will be reached by increasing students cycling on average by 4% per year).
To help achieve these objectives we “kicked off” with the following initiatives.
Safer Streets Project visited the school on Thursday March 11th to present a programme of performance,
workshops and follow-up lessons to our Year 9 students. “The Safer Streets Project – Sam’s Story” takes a holistic
approach to disaffection and aggression and aims to raise self-esteem and aspiration, giving young people the tools
to manage their lives effectively, reducing self-destructive and anti-social behaviour.
Walking Forward road safety theatre production “The Price” was presented to our Year 7 students on
Tuesday 30th March. The production encourages students to take responsibility for themselves and their friends with
their newfound independence at secondary school.
Look out for new initiatives coming in the Summer Term.
PA News
The PA would like to invite you all to their annual summer barbeque which will take place this year on Saturday 26th
June from 3.30pm until 6.00pm. As usual there will be a licensed bar, live music and a wide variety of stalls. This is
a fantastic opportunity for us to get together as a school community to welcome our new Year 7 students and their
families who will be joining the school in September. We would be grateful for any donations for the raffles and
tombola, including unwanted gifts and bottles. These should be sent in to school and marked for the attention of the
PA. Any unwanted school uniform which is in good condition may also be sent in to be sold on the second hand
uniform stall.
The PA Quiz Night will take place on Saturday 22nd May. Tickets will cost £5 per person which will include a snack
platter per table of eight. There will also be a licensed bar.
Many thanks to everyone who supported our St Patrick’s night celebration, which raised in excess of £2000 and we
look forward to seeing you at next term’s events.
